Abstract

The newspaper Zvezda began to circulate in the Novgorod province in 1918. From 1918 to 1920, the newspaper was published in the extreme conditions of the civil war. But there were no real military actions in the territory of the province. Local leaders actively fought the Church. The newspaper widely covered the unsealing of relics. This was considered an important part of atheistic work. In November 1920, the provincial newspaper covered in detail the criminal case of Bishop Alexy. He was accused of unauthorized examination of relics, which led to their falsi cation. Other clergymen were also put on trial. They were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment in concentration camps, but were immediately released under an amnesty
